The unthinkable happened Thursday night. So I'm sitting down to dinner and flipping around the channels, and Star Trek V is on AMC. That gets me wondering just how loose AMC's definition of "classic" is. I keep flipping around, and a few channels later, Commando is on. Thus, arguably the worst Star Trek film ever (I think Generations makes a very strong case) and arguably the worst Schwarzenegger film ever (Batman and Robin make a good case) were on television at the same time! If Rocky V were on, I would've started praying, because it would be the end of the world. But it wasn't. And to tell you the truth, I started watching both films, just to see how colossally bad both were. In that, they did not disappoint.

Fast forward to Friday night. I'm sitting down to dinner again, turn on the TV, flip around, go to AMC, and Godfather Part III is on. Yes, the Godfather Part III. On American Movie Classics. Exactly one night after they played Star Trek V in the same timeslot. Thus, either they were doing "Crappy Sequels That Nearly Ruined Their Respective Franchises Week" on AMC, or the programmers at AMC were trying to hurt me. Fearing the worst, I flipped over to A&E, half expecting Rocky V. Rocky III was on. (I'm not joking about that.) Followed by Rocky IV. I went back to see if Rocky V would be on, but they went back to Rocky III. Thank God. Meanwhile, at the same time Godfather Part III was on AMC, TCM was showing the Magnificent Seven, with no commercials and in widescreen. Today, when AMC replayed Godfather Part III, TCM was showing Annie Hall, again with no commercials and in widescreen. What did we learn here? AMC SUCKS!

On a separate note, the Battlewagon is nearing decommissioning. I picked up her replacement today, a 2005 Toyota Matrix. I welcome any suggestions regarding a new name. Feel free to post your memories of the Battlewagon. Fortunately, she's not destined for the scrapheap just yet, as she'll be spending the remainder of her life as a church shuttle. Feel free to post your memories of the Battlewagon. She gave me five good years of service, and she took many of you out there where you needed to be. Show your love.

Coming soon, Star Trek V vs Star Trek: Generations for the title of Worst Star Trek film ever.
